Oh, hi!
Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet. I'm Lauren and mostly I blog about long-slow travel, long-distance running, yoga, the quarter-life crisis and why I think it's marvelous that you're having one. Every now and then, I get poetic about boys, too.
When I started this blog, I lived in a teeny box of an apartment on 1st Avenue in Manhattan and worked in a brick and mortar corporate atmosphere and while I didn't love it, I knew that it could always, always be way worse. I was also a hiking guide on the weekends, though I tried hard not to push my nerd glasses too far up my nose (nope, backpacking is totally not nerdy AT ALL. See?)
I've been an East Coaster for, like, ever. I grew up in Rochester, NY, went to college in Washington, DC, and lived in Manhattan for my early twenties, punctuated by random trips around the world to developing nations (cuz that shit's cheap, yo!)
I used to think that it was really tough to explore the outdoorsy side of myself in Manhattan, but then I realized there were mountains to my north, lakes to my south, and beaches to my east (and New Jersey to my west, but we're not talking about it.) Recently, I took my own damn advice and packed up my shit and moved out west. I didn't make it quite as far as San Francisco, but I've heard there are a lot of weirdos there anyway. Instead, I chose Montana, where there are still weirdos, but fewer and they hide their crazy behind mountains of outdoor gear and rippling muscles.
So now I live in Bozeman, Montana, but I forgot to bring my vintage cruiser bike and a dog, so I'm coping with it by buying a lot of groceries and meditating (not medicating).
I am thoroughly enjoying being in my twenties.
The Story
I started this blog to keep my friends and family posted about my three-month travel jaunt to Southeast Asia in 2010, wherein I (tried to) quit my job, booked a RTW ticket to Indonesia, sold my belongings, and packed up and moved out of my precious and lovely apartment in Brooklyn. All in the span of about six weeks. And did I mention I forgot to tell my mom that I was doing all of this until about three weeks before I left? (Sorry, Mom)
When I came back, I was broke and figured that writing was cheaper than therapy. I also wanted connect to a broader community who was also trying to figure out this funny little game of Life. If it were like that, I should already have a schmancy college degree, a yellow plastic car with a pink peg and a blue peg in it (and maybe even a house and a little baby peg on the way.)
As it turns out, I have life ADD, but I'm hoping to sort of still complete those life game steps. Just a bit out of order perhaps.
My last great adventure was spending 40 days in the Himalayas of India in April 2012 to learn how to mountaineer. And carry 50+ pounds on my back. And I got to wear a real nice pair of these bad boys.
Now, the view outside my window were I work and write is the Bridger Mountains.
When I'm not waxing on over here, I take a break and talk about teaching yoga and making more nauseating life decisions over on YOGANONYMOUS.
